i didn’t update my score on number 2 after retasting it as a “First” tasting. The score was part of a tasting where it was number 6 ![]()
As a small addition:
The last remaining 140 tropically stored Caroni casks (Trinidad and Guyana stock) were shipped to Europe in 2019.
24 of these casks went up in “The Last” (5522 bottles). Another 22 casks were used for the “Tasting Gang” (5083 bottles). Furthermore, a total of 60 casks are said to have been used for the Employees.
The Paradise bottling comprises a further 23 casks.
Thus, it can be said for Velier-Caroni that only a few more bottlings will appear. However, it will hardly be possible for ordinary mortals to obtain these😅.
(All information without guarantee, I don’t have the book either🙈)
Use it in a nuclear daiquiri ![]()
Im quite sure that special taste caroni delivers doesent come by chance but is delivered by those special chemicals wich also smell and taste like mechanical workshop, oil, tar and diesel and wouldnt pass any foodsafetystandards nowadays ( wich is also true for some widespread drugs like aspirin and paracetamol, wich also would get any permissions if rated nowadays according to some pharmacists )
Personally i enjoy the caroni notes but it stays quite in the 50-200 bucks range i would be willing to spend for taste and complexity alone.
Maybe the RumX community should make it their project to revive the caronitaste ![]()

.
Also ich finde z.b.

While the article doesn’t answer how many casks of Caroni are left, it provides an interesting glimpse behind the doors and into the cellars of a rum broker:
Key takeaways:
While their cask inventory numbers well into the thousands, only some are for sale at any given moment.
it’s not a free-for-all where multiple buyers compete for the same cask. Instead, Main Rum selects a set of casks a client may be interested in and reserves them while the customer decides.
So the credit some independent bottlers get for their cask selection might be overstated, because it’s MRC who selects what a client gets to choose from. On the other hand this might also be a reason why some indies seem to decrease in quality lately (RA, anyone?). They just don’t get offered the good stuff anymore and have to work with the samples MRC shoves down their throat. Unfortunately the article doesn’t touch on the the lobbying involved – if any – to get “good casks”.
