Mal schauen was Rum&Co da so hat abfüllen lassen
Der ist ja auch legger. Schön schwarz und legger.
Same for me when I tried them, for the same reasons
Is that the oldest rum that you have tried? How does it compare to younger rums?
No, not the oldest one, but nearly.
I tasted this rum together with RX18823. And I must say that on the nose there isn’t much difference, both are relatively weak (smooth) there, no alcohol noticeable at all. On the palate the difference is bigger:
The 1963 is much woodier, which is no surprise, taking the age into regard. But also remarkably stronger in the sense of mouth filling, which is surprising, because it contains less alcohol (48,5%). While in the 1992 I can taste malt, the 1963 comes out with licorice and leather - it really reminds me of a very old Demerara rum!
Conclusion:
In the mouth they develop a slightly different taste and strength, but both are great rums imo - 88 points each. ¡Salud!
P. D.: Again I’m quite sure that both are from the Santiago distillery.
Which was your favourite? How was the caroni?
The “old Jamaican rum”
Probably Hampden but no way to tell 100% sure. Explosion of estery fruits, alcohol perfectly integrated. Wonderful in every possible way. It packed a whopping 73% but it was not noticeable.
Best guess was a HV Hampden at +60%
Never tasted anything like it. Probably never will again
Edit: this is a reaction on this post
i like this 98 Caroni a lot, but I’m not that much of an expert compared to some other guys here. For me it deserves a 90.
It’s hard to pinpoint a “favorite” of these 4, given the variety between them. At this point (fresh bottles, first pours) maybe the Guyana or Caroni.
On the other hand: The Duo is à solid rum and VERY enjoyable. It’s very well possible that it won’t survive the summer.
The Bielle will need time and some oxidation to evolve. It’s not yet where it needs to be.
