Rum Talk: What‘s in your glass today? (Part 1)

Everything :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

We made: watermelon rum punch, daiquiri, mai tai, captains grog (with some twists), mojito, dark’n stormy, cuba libre, rum & coke, old Cuban, some stuff with mescal…

I probably forgot some things :sweat_smile:

The bottle in the middle is what’s left of a self inspired homemade cocktail from a friend: Clairin 39 months sherry, uitvlugt from kill devil (16 years - 1999 46%), C<>H (bottle on the right) and baie du gaiillon 6 months sherry grand arôme, selfmade apple rubarb cinnamon syrup, falernum, dom bénédictine, lime juice, ginger beer.

YUM :heart_eyes::yum:

The bottle on the right is some C<>H, fresh from the still :exploding_head::saluting_face:

@TheGreatSpooner I decided to give the Caroni finished gin a try, its hardly a mid winter drink but thats ok! I first tried it neat, then in a classic gin and tonic, which is my favourite way to drink gin. First thing noticed is the very slight colour coming through, which is the barrel influence. On the nose the first thing that hits is licorice, then juniper, standard fair for a london dry, there might be slight oily influence but nothing great. On the palate the barrel influence is a bit more noticable with some dirty notes coming through and some rough edges knocked off, but its still predominatly gin notes. It makes a solid g&t, once mixed the barrel influence is clearly dissipated. I think its worth a try if you can get it it at a decent price, Certainly not worth 210 euro! I paid 70 from rhum attitude, you will need to decide if this is value for money. Solid 8 out of 10 for me. Sorry not rum but i guess its related.

In that period (2010-2015) there was a huge gin hype in germany. Also thats where all those cucumber, lemon, celery tips came from. Thankfully the hype around gin declined massively since corona. Nothing against a nice gin tonic in the summer though. Im just against all those Berlin/schwarzwald manufactured botanical infused hipster gins with prices around 40€/0,5l.

Yes we had the same hype over here, though it probaly peaked 5 years after Europe, like most things over here😄. I still enjoy a good gin and tonic however. There is a lot of gin distillers going broke in australia at the moment, the market has definitly contracted. If i could go back to 2012 i would buy up every Velier Caroni and Demerara i could get my hands on thats for sure!
