I repeatedly stumbled upon a question during my last splits:
Has the bottle to be new or is an already opened bottle (e.g. 5 months old) also OK?
For myself I always use new and unopened bottles to split, but what are your thoughts about this topic.

To me an already open bottle counts as well, although it is maybe technically not a bottle split but rather a sample share.
But this is like splitting hair and both serve the same target: sharing your goodies with the community

Bereits geöffnete Flaschen mĂŒssten meines Erachtens unter eine Sample-Liste des Anbieters fallen.
I believe that as the bottles are opened longer, the taste changes as well, both for better and for worse.
When I split, I want everyone to get something from a newly opened bottle so that they are on the same level and have the prerequisites for being able to give an objective evaluation.
if I offer or am offered a sample, I know that it is older and the taste is no longer âoriginalâ.
but either way, sharing with the community is actually the most important thing.
So theoretically sharing my âoldâ bottle to finance a fresh one of the same kind is also ok?
Meines Erachtens nach sollten nur neue, verschlossene Flaschen als Split eingestellt werden. Jedenfalls mache ich dies so, da ich gerne frischen, ungeöffneten Rum der Community stellen möchte, der nicht schon lĂ€nger offen gestanden hat ( wobei bei mir alles vor Licht geschĂŒtzt steht und ich darauf achte, dass alles gut verschlossen ist.
Alles andere stelle ich in meine Sampleliste ein.
I always use closed bottles. If it is opened already some nuances could change over time. Already opened bottles go to the sample list. But me personally donât mind if somebody makes a split with an opened bottle. But i feel better knowing that the bottle is fresh if i split it myself.
Edit: if a bottle is already opend it should be be recognizable.
In my eyes a âsplitâ implies a sealed bottle.
However, I have honestly never looked at it this way, and canât imagine basing my decision to partake in a split (or not) on this alone. I -maybe foolishly- trust most if not all users here to have excellent morals when it comes to rum, and who would not sell spoilt dust-collecting samples disguised as brand new product.
Ich denke man sollte hier etwas differenzieren was geöffnete Flaschen angeht. Wenn es eine Flasche ist, die kĂŒrzlich geöffnet wurde, hĂ€tte ich damit kein Problem. Wenn die Flasche halb leer ist und 5 Jahre im Schrank stand, fĂ€nde ich das nicht so toll.
I guess there is room for fu**ing with the trust of the Community. Thinking this way is kind of shitty. But i guess possible. Than maybe a rule for only closed bottles for a split with pic for proof could help⊠but i would go the old way and forget that thought. I had no problem so far. In fact it is crazy how good this Community works. I have a sample list because i will never be able to drink all the rum. And I realy try. And yes⊠the money from that list mostly goes to new rum bottles 
I think it also depends on the statement. Without further mention i expect a new bottle.
But i have no problem if the person splitting is upfront âi opened this 3 weeks ago and it is too similar to other bottles i have opened and so i decided to make a splitâ that is fine to me
Ich bin auch Team âneue Flascheâ. Aber am Ende kann es niemand kontrollieren und wenn ich âpersonal share 25clâ lese, find ich das irgendwie suspekt und frag mich ob das nicht ne âalteâ LadenhĂŒter-Flasche ausm Regal ist. Da bin ich auch der Meinung, das das auf die Sample-Liste gehört. Allerdings bekommen Splits mehr Aufmerksamkeit als Sample-Listen. Falls die Flasche lĂ€nger als einen Monat offen ist wĂ€re ein disclaimer nicht schlecht.
Wer LadenhĂŒter âsplittetâ sollte das transparent machen und eventuell auch preislich entgegenkommen.
Nein, fĂŒr mich nicht. Ich verstehe die Problematik, kenne ich ja auch. Aber wenn, dann muss das unbedingt transparent sein.

Mhm hab jetzt bei der TheRumCask 10th Anniversary WP DOK mir auch mal 20cl Personal Share auf die Seite, aber nachdem die erst Sonntag auf den Markt geschmissen wurde, keine Sorge. 
Ist eher fĂŒr die nĂ€chste Tasting Runde der Franconian Rum Gang gedacht. Wobei ich glaube ich jetzt generell mal gerne 10-20cl behalte, wenn mich die Flaschen wirklich mehr als interessieren oder dann einfach nicht mehr zu haben sind, wie jetzt die FRC HLFC.
Aber im Endeffekt muss das jeser selber wissen wie es gehamdhabt wird. Hab den Vieux Sajous (Caronifass) letztens mal aufgemacht, wollte die Frau haben, jetzt schmeckt er ihr nicht. Hab ĂŒberlegt ob ich den dann fĂŒr einen Split bereit stelle, wusste aber nicht ob man das dann darf.
Also falls jemand von dem was will einfach bei mir melden 
No, as others have already stated it would be a difference if
a) the bottle was opened recently and is maybe not the expected profile and gets then shared
b) is kind of left over or sitting on the shelf for months/years
I am totally fine with a) even if it was not planned as a split initially.
b) needs a clear disclaimer/explanation what is being split and how long open it is or just put it on a sample list

Das ist ja auch OK wenn man mal was mehr fĂŒr Freunde oder tatsĂ€chlich sich selbst reserviert. Ich hab ja nur gesagt, dass ich es (potentiell) suspekt finde. HĂ€ngt aber immer auch vom Gesamteindruck des Splits ab. Altes Release oder gerade erst erschienen? KĂŒrzlich thematisiert oder völlig random? Beliebter Rum oder generell als âmehâ bekannt?
Wer vom The Last 20cl behalten will â logisch.
Wer jetzt noch den RA SFGB teilt und 25cl personal share hat â Nachtigall ick hör dir trappsen.

Vielleicht sollten wir doch eine eigene Rubrik auf machen Left-over-split
Gibt bestimmt so die eine oder andere Flasche die nicht mehr gemocht wird und jemand anders ist froh da noch was abgreifen zu dĂŒrfen.
Mit Angabe wie lange die schon offen ist und dann kann jeder selbst entscheiden ob er was nimmt oder nicht, wie bei samples eben auch.

Es ist wie beim Rum im allgemeinen. Auf die Transparenz kommt es an.
Und ja neue bottle Splits kriegen natĂŒrlich mehr Aufmerksamkeit als die Verteilung/das Angebot ĂŒber die sample liste (Im allgemeinen 
)
Hab jetzt dank Nachfrage aus der Community z.b. Mal den RC HD 2000 frisch geöffnet. Stand zwar schon lÀnger auf der Liste wegen fehlender Nachfrage war der aber zu. Jetzt nicht mehr 
Man kann natĂŒrlich auch ne Flasche kaufen und nur die HĂ€lfte oder so splitten das ist jedem doch freigestellt. Das sollte nicht gleich argwöhnisch machen. Mehr Transparenz hilft natĂŒrlich immer ein wenig. Man kann ja auch ne Flasche nach paar Jahren öffnen selbst wenn die nicht der heiĂe Schrei war oder gut verfĂŒgbar. Hat doch jeder sowas im Schrank/Keller oder wo auch immerđ
Aber bitte stellt jetzt nicht noch alle eure Rechnungen ein. Da packt mich nur wieder mein Gewissen wenn ich die Zahlen seheđ

Ich hab ein Ă€hnliches wenn auch anderes Thema mit Flaschen die man mal ĂŒbermotiviert viel zu teuer gekauft hat und jetzt irgendwie nicht splitten will, da der Preis nicht OVP ist. Bin ich immer am ĂŒberlegen, das das nicht falsch rĂŒber kommt.
