After a year of us all getting used to online tastings, I thought maybe online tastings could be used as a community event. How do you like the idea?

Online Tastings could be made into Cross Tastings (e.g. Deep Dive for a region/distillery). My first suggestion would be: Fiji Cross Tasting.

Google Hangout, Skype or Gather Town could be used as a platform. Gather Town allows a free video call room where you can start different sessions in parallel. Different tastings could also be held there in parallel.

OK, it took me a while to proceed here. But a lot of people voted in favor of a community tasting.

As the chance to do it with a lot of the #30daysofrum rums passed by I guess the second best solution is a cross tasting.

I have a few ideas, maybe you have better ones.

My ideas:

  • Fiji Crosstasting: Tasting different vintages find out about similarities and differences. I can provide samples for (20cl for each bottle - perhaps the 2003 TRC is already too empty so 10 2cl Samples)

I’d be interessted if you can add more and if a lot of people want to participate, we need to add more of the same.
Fijis which are available and I’d love to taste are the Plantion Fiji 2011 Aquavite Line and the new Barikenn 2012 and perhaps the new CdI of 2010.

Another idea might be a Jamaican Distillery Crosstasting, the idea is to highlight the profile of the 5 (or perhaps not all of them) distilleries.

Even more than in the case of the Fijis in some of the bottles is not enough left for more than 5 samples - but as everybody has some jamaicans we’ll easily find some other rums for a cross tasting.

The last idea is a still-crosstasting of guyana perhaps with focus on versailles and port mourant. This might be very interessting but I can’t provide a lot of different samples.

Wir nutzen Jitsi für unser Online Tastings im Rum-Freundeskreis. Und es hat sich inzwischen der Modus “Blind-Tasting” als der Beliebteste herauskristallisiert. Jeder schickt an alle Teilnehmer ein unbeschriftetes Sample seiner Wahl und es wird dann gemeinsam per Video Call verkostet und gefachsimpelt. Klappt ganz gut in unserer Runde, wir sind zu 6.

Davor hatten wir schon verschiedene andere Themengebiete oder einfach ein Free-For-All.
