Responsible drinking (or other drug consumption) has never been encouraged by high taxes.
Ban on drugs just open up grey and black markets and governments loose control on who sells what to whom.
A recent study I read about has found that ppl who smoke, drink, or are extremely obese, actually are net profit for health insurance. They tend to die a lot junger, and the vast majority of health care costs are occurring with extremely old ppl.
It’s ofc only 1 study but it shines a different light on this very old discussion.
Thanks for this interesting input. Certainly not denying that they die younger, but I guess some might be extremely unhealthy in their last years, which can consume a lot of cost.
