Hi all,
Quite a broad question, but I’d like to know what your favorite bottles are in the 40 to 60 euro price range. As this will be a shortlist for me to buy from, they have to be available retail in Europe.
Thanks in advance,
Matthijs

For me personally: Doorly’s 12, Appleton 12, Hampden 8, Hampden LROK The Younger, Neisson Blanc, Bielle 59.
El Dorado 15 RX9643
J.M Blanc 50° (alternatively J.M Jardin Macouba, has a higher rating) RX453 / RX11776
@DevidedByZero agreed, ED 15 is phantastic considering the price.
Please add El Dorado 12 RX9644. Rounder and less spicy than the 15.
Agricoles below 60€ I would recommend Rhum J.M XO RX34, but it’s tricky to get a bottle for this price .
The El Dorado 12 is part of my collection since saturday! I have yet to try it.
Great suggestions everyone, keep them coming
I see Doorly’s 12 on sale for 40 euros here. Tempting…
For me personally, it’s the best out of the whole Doorly’s range in terms of value for money and a fantastic entry into Barbadian rum. Can be sipped neat but also makes a great Corn 'n Oil. I think 40€ is pretty standard price, can sometimes find it for less here in Germany.
As suggested before, I agree on the Doorly’s range. This is a must-buy to start a collection.
Furthermore, I would also add:
Enjoy your rum journey!
Greetings from Belgium,
Philip
if you want to browse an extensive list, you can filter in the app the rums with a price range smaller than 60 EUR and then sort by highest ratings. It might not provide a perfect list, but at least there might be some interesting rums for you to consider…
Try the El Ron del Artesano 10 Jahre Tawny Port Cask Finish. Banneke.com has a lot of Plantation Single Cask for under 60€.
Other than that and what has already posted:
and the prices are very different from shop to shop. Have fun.
Greetings
Alex
Hi Matthijs,
You are lucky, the Netherlands has quite a decent market in that price range. For reference I am using Drankdozijn.nl which offers fair prices for standard bottles. And you could spread out your shipping costs over multiple bottles.
Doorly’s 12 RX212 41 euro
Mount Gay XO RX2067 39 euro
Wray & Nephew RX5701 25 euro
El Dorado 12 RX9644 30 euro
Havana Club Selección de Maestros RX44 38 euro
Plantation 3 stars RX116 16 euro
Plantation OFTD RX323 26 euro
Smith & Cross RX43 25 euro
Duppy Share white RX11795 21 euro
Eminente 7y RX7273 50 euro
Appleton 15 RX9992 53 euro
Union Coconut RX8753 25 euro
Doorly’s is now at the top of my list. Thanks for the other suggestions.
Smith & Cross is my favorite rum right now. Although i suspect that might change once I open my hampden 8 marks unaged bottles.
Yeah I did that, but a lot of those bottles are not available (or more expensive). Also i wanted a more condensed list, but seeing the many reactions here that didnt really work out lol.
Banneke unfortunately only ships to DE and AU. I will try to find some plantation single cask bottles then. Any favorites? There are quite a few it seems.
Yeah drankdozijn.nl is great! I actually own all the bottles you suggested 30 euros and below… moment of realisation. (Except union coconut)
Im adding more costly suggestion to the wishlist. Thanks!
My supplier has 14y, with my discount for 56€.
12y for 37€…Doorly 's
I found this one … could be a good start:
For me the Plantation Single Casks with Rum from Trinidad are quite good in that price range. Also Fiji and Australia.
I agree with Worthy park single estate to begin with Jamaican (with some esters, or you’ll have to go to Appleton 12/15) and with El Dorado 15 and doorlys 12. But be careful to the El Dorado, this must not be the old bottles! Or it will be a lot sweetened.
And very good to replace the doorlys 12, you’ve got the Shakara 12, which is very good, quite similar as a barbados rum and in a quite nice bottle.
