Hi Adrian, you have done everything in the right way and you are absolutely in the right place! There is no bottle split exchange thread whatsover. I guess the more limited interest comes mainly from the rather high shipping cost attached. Often someone is willing to act as hub to forward samples within the country, thus reducing individual shipping cost. If there is further interest, maybe someone is stepping in as hub. I personally do not want a sample but mainly for the reason that I am already struggling with too many Advent calendar samples. The Caroni as such is a great bottle split!. Thus, don‘t feel discouraged if there will not be enough interest
I think maybe then I will test the shipping costs to Germany and we can see what happens. Yes I agree shipping is mad … one of my first sample was 15Euro and shipping was 15Euro I’ll figure this out … thanks for your thoughts. … i’VE EDITED postage to 8 Euro, the cover is £100 but it take 3-5 days to get there.
Also we get flooded with high-priced bottle splits like this one since around a year in these forums. Everybody has a limited amount of money for this hobby, so not all splits can be succesful sadly.
I am pretty sure, this Caroni is rather decent, but i dont see myself putting in around 40€ to get a small sample in December.
By the way did you order this directly from Excellence Rhum in France? And if so did you had to pay some extra duties to have it delivered to the UK or where they included in the price?
I’m French but living in the UK so I often have it delivered to a friend there and I pick it up or they bring it over but obviously I’m limited to handful of bottle per trip and it doesn’t happen that often so I’ve got a fair backlog of bottles stored there
No it was a nightmare !! So I went over to pick up a lot of my collection I gathered when working in France …. when I went through customs they basically charge £35 per litre of alcohol … so if the ABV is 60% then you pay an additional £20 per bottle and then they charge 20% VAT on top. SO anything more than 4 bottles of spirit (I had around 60 on that trip) you will get billed. On that trip I ended up paying over £600 in duty …. *&@(&& !!! So annoyed. When I had stuff shipped it was just as bad but add another £50 for shipping and then insurance for a 12 bottle case. To be honest it was a real pain in the butt.
Apparently there are some EU companies that don’t charge the duty and VAT, I heard from someone on Facebook saying LMDW and it’s either rhum excellence or rhum attitude. I have ordered from fine drams and never got charged VAT or duty but it could have been a one-off
I’ve asked Rhum Attitude a while ago and they said that they don’t charge VAT when shipping to the UK. But they also said that they heard all sorts from customer’s feedback about the customs, sometimes being charged, sometimes not and not always charging in the same way.
