Das ist eine Kombi zum Niederknien. Enjoy!
Guter Rum zur Zigarre, hatte den heute nachmittag auch im Glas
Guys,
I recently started exploring the great world of cigars. I already smoked a few cigars with friends in the past, but now I want to learn more about it.
I made my first purchase and these were the recommendations from the shopkeeper:
I made it clear that my intention was to pair it with great rum.
What do you guys think?
Yesterday I tried the Perdomo Lot23 Connecticut (Gordito) and paired it with a nice 23yo Caroni from Kill Devil (RX9710):
While I enjoyed the experience, I had the feeling that the 60 ring gauge is a bit big/unnatural for me.
Probably a standard Robusto size is more to my liking for now?
As a beginner, what do you guys recommend to try next?
Every Cuban Cigar you can catch
For easy Smoking i like romeo julieta no.2 or the Mille fleurs.
Welcome to the ‚cigar lounge‘ Your cigar shop made already a good selection. Rocky Patel and Plasencia are quality smokes, I enjoy, too. You may also try Cigarkings, Skelton, Henry Clay (see above), Principle, My Father Cigars, Hendrik Kelner (he produces many nice small batch series), Nicarao, NUB (if you enjoy the big vitolas). However, as Jörg already mentioned, you should at least have tried Cubans. They play in a league of their own. If there is a Casa del Habano close to your place, they have the best selection. Unfortunately, Cubans have meanwhile become very expensive. So you might probably not go straight to a Cohiba. When I started with the Cubans, I liked for instance the Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure #2 which is rather mild but with a full body. As for rum pairing, and as a rule of thumb, I find that stronger rums pair with stronger cigars. Otherwise, there is the risk that a strong rum (e.g. Caroni, TDL) dominate too much, and subtle cigar notes get lost. With a good Cuban, sometimes simply a glass of water is enough.
I was at a Davidoff promotion last week and was pleasantly surprised. Although I do find them a little overpriced, but they are of high quality as far as I can tell as a layman.
Thanks for the warm welcome and the nice suggestions!
The shop I went to was indeed a Casa del Habano, and I will definitely go back for my next purchases. Looking forward to trying some Cubans in the future.
I was in fact at my local CdH today. They currently have the Hoyo Epicure #3 in stock. This is also nice (Torpedo format). So I guess, they might have it, too, at your place…
I had a Partagas Series D No. 4 with the RX23695, the neighbour cask of RX20000. THAT was an ace combination, the aromes were shifting each other to new levels, awesome!
Once in a while it’s fun to venture outside of Cuban territory and recalibrate….
As expected the Davidoff is of very high quality and a pleasure to smoke. While balanced and delicate the Signatures cannot convince me, really.
The pairing with the Neisson Le Bus Rose RX9544 isn’t bad. Yet with the cigar being so delicate (one might say „very light“), I’m not sure there is any rum which isn’t to overpowering in a pairing. Well one, that I enjoy on its own anyways
Back to Cuba it is…
Schöne Kombo
Ein Gläschen und eine Zigarre mit @FrauZabo auf das der Sohn wieder aus dem KH daheim ist
Looks like a perfect combination! Enjoy!
