Dry January 2024

Hi folks, I am in too. Ordering some rums to enjoy in February in the meantime . Going to be a long January without trying new stuff though

DAY 2/31 - You who have entered, abandon all hope…

Welcome all, you humble sheep in our little congreation! I will be your host on this miserable journey.

To clear our minds, will we start our journey with a profound question to contemplate on:

Q: How can you tell if someone is having a dry January?
A: He tells you.

Is anyone already suffering from cold sweats and shivering?

Yes but that started already yesterday around 03h00 in the morning

Okay, non-alcoholic “spirits”:

  • on Christmas I made something non-alcoholic with Nona ginger. I put two shots of it with a shot of lime juice, some maple syrup and a green apple through the blender and pressed it trough a sieve. Then combined some of that with apple juice, sparkling water (or tonic?) and used some thinly sliced apple and cinnamon as garnish.

Other things that I’ve had some experience with

Non-alcoholic beers: we have quite a few nowadays in Belgium, but you have to be aware that some are sold as alcohol-free but in fact are very low in alcohol (max 0,5%). Force Majaure is such an example: in flavor it’s one of the best, but actually not completely without alcohol (Force Majeure – 100% Smaak, 0% Alcohol)

  • I like Erdinger (mentioned by Gunnar above) as well as Thrive (Science behind our beer | Thrive), both for their post-workout properties.
  • Scandinavian countries also offer a wide selection of alcohol-free beers.

Also mentionable, some soft drinks that aren’t overly sweet, like ginger beers, San Pellegrino (lemon), Ritchey, bitter lemon, tonic, and maybe a Crodino once in a while.

To conclude, you can even go tiki with a Designated Driver:

Good luck with Dry January everyone. I haven’t decided on an end date myself, so I’ll see when I’ll call it quits. I feel that my body would benefit from it
