Day 6… cheers to the New Year :clinking_glasses::sweat_smile:

Oha, jetzt ist normalerweise die Zeit, zu der ich mir einen schönen Rum für den Abend aussuche …

Nicht, dass ich rückfällig werde, aber das Ritual ist schon sehr im Gedächtnis verankert. Außerdem bin ich ja gerade beim Abfüllen von Samples und da darf ich mir nun nicht mal die Finger ablecken … :flushed:

Only sniffing and crying is permitted :joy:

I’m just crying! :sob::rofl:

Geht mir ähnlich. Krass, wieviel Gewohnheit da drin steckt. Aber gut, dass man das auch mal reflektiert.

DAY 7/31: Sunday, Bloody Sunday

Day 7, one week in… Everyone still okay?

Normally I would enjoy a nice rum with my father at this moment, but this will suffice (for now).

Cheers :beers:

Edit: like a lot of non-alcoholic beers, I find this one a bit too much on the sweet side. But it’s definitely not the worst

Regarding non-alcoholic beers I like Franziskaner.

I’m about to cook myself a steak and would open a nice red wine to go with it, but not today. Oh well…

And then my dad, with his new bottle of 9 year old 2014 WPL (from 1423) in his hand, says: “But you can taste it and spit it out, can’t you? It’s just a little taste…”

  • “No dad, I love you but fuck off. Next month or so we’ll compare it with the Worthy Park 12 years old that I have at home.”

:fu::rofl::yum:

Need to decide if my liver is more important or my bank balance at this point :joy:.

FFS, never bought so many rums in a week, all because I can’t drink em for while :persevere:

Day 8… no work today

We went to bed early because the daughter was a bit hyped that school starts again today and we thought it would give her some peace… with the result that I’ve woken up in the middle of the night and I can’t sleep anymore :man_facepalming:

Ah well, I can at least get a cup of coffee while browsing the forum :coffee:

PS: I’ve been awake for a couple of hours already and it’s not even 4:30. It’s gonna be a looooong day :joy: someone hit me with a hammer please :hammer:

Tom, how are you doing? Are you still hanging around that coffee machine? I think you have a severe case of rumaritis. You should take action on that as soon as it is Feb 1st

But are you sure it is your daughter who is hyped to go back to school? It seems like it is you.

Alive and kicking (sort off), but I’ve switched to water in order to keep my caffein in check :joy: my biorhythm is shot to hell due to changing work shifts and no steady sleep pattern.

Well I’m not against it  Time to get her to school and go to the gym. I’ll get tired, no worries

Good to hear you have made it! We will cancel the Dry January team of rescue dogs that was on its way to your house.

It sometimes happens to me that I have some trouble to get to sleep after a period of more intensive drinking and then abstaining. It normally lasts for a few days but after that I sleep like a baby. Could it be something like this or is it really shift related?

I’m kinda used to it as it happens from time to time. Falling asleep initially is never the problem. But there are periods when I will wake up after one sleep cycle in stead of two and my brain will be too active to fall asleep again.
If this pattern stays for too long I’ll get worried, but not yet right now. I’ve even seen a doctor about it in the past and he gave me some sleep medication. But I hate taking that stuff as it makes me too much of a zombie the day after… unless I have the luxury to sleep +10 hours. But who has time for that in their daily lives
PS: this is getting way off-topic!

Yes, I was wondering if it was related to Dry January. But if it is not, that is a good thing

Day 8/31: Mommy, can I go out and kill tonight? (© Misfits)

Welcome my little flock of daredevils, defiers of death, you who dwell on the brink of death. As you are surely aware of: Being dry in January is one of the most dangerous situations, you can expose yourself:

  1. Your Social Life Could Take a Hit: If you’re used to drinking in social settings, re-learning how to spend time with your friends without alcohol makes it hard to stay motivated
  2. The Benefits Are Temporary: The hard-earned health improvements of abstinence will disappear if you resume your old drinking habits in February
  3. Enabling Denial: Successfully avoiding alcohol for a month could make you believe you don’t have a problem with drinking, even if an alcohol use disorder exists
  4. Starting an Abstinence-Binge Cycle: Going sober cold-turkey makes many people more likely to binge once January ends, starting a vicious abstinence-binge cycle over the long term
  5. Dry January Withdrawal Symptoms: If you have an average of 4-5 drinks each day, you might experience dangerous alcohol withdrawal symptoms like delirium tremens

Quite scary, hu?

So kick off your shoes, lean back and enoy the fine melody of pouring rum from the bottle and stop this dangerous journey:
