El Presidente / Which ingredients do you prefer?

Recently I found the promising recipe of this cocktail. I bought the required ingredients. Grenadine from Monin and Vermouth Blanc from Noilly Prat as those were available at the local super market. I used my standard mixer Appleton Estate 12.

The result was disappointing but promising. It was extremely herbal (the Noilly Prat for sure). I also did it without the grenadine, herbal too of course.

Which ingredients would you recommend?

40ml Rum (I prefer a tropical aged Foursquare in cask strength, wouldnt go with a rum with esters)
15ml sweet Vermouth
10ml Orange Curacao (if possible Pierre Fernand Dry Curacao, in case also Cointreau should work)
5ml Grenadine
1 Dash Orange bitters

made in a mixing glass with ice (long stir) and served in a coupette with an orange coin
