Been spraying all of my pricy opened bottles for quite some time now. After doing a side by side test with the same rum that had been sprayed between every serving, and a sample bottle that was filled to the half I notice a great decrease in aromas, just after three months. The sprayed bottles was a lot richer and tastier! It also work surprisingly well with wine that can easily be good to drink after a week, and more. The gas can be used with everything that you don’t want to oxidize.
However the one I been currently using I buy for around 15€ and only holds for about a month. What is your experience with similar products and do you have one that is proper in size that holds up for a longer time that you are happy with?
it’s for sure a good move to avoid oxidation, which even over time kills even spirits. The Coravin works similarly.
Wine is killed in a day more less, some rums live up with some oxidation but at the end it kills them to.
One good method, drink them and do not open to many bottles at the time.
You might miss out on some good benefit of oxidation. I would definetly prefer opening less bottles to make sure I finish them before they go flat… For me a useless expense but that’s for my use I guess…
some years back, I had tried Winaro (Argon cartridges) for old wine bottles, where indeed oxidation leads to deterioration virtually within minutes. But the system was a real pain to use and eventually I gave up with it. I believe they have an improved system now, but I haven‘t tried it yet. As for open rum bottles, I am with @Serge and occassionally refill into 10cl bottles, but most often, I am too lazy for that
