Rum Talk: What‘s in your glass today?

I took notes and will publish my notes later. We didn’t try Sirène and Écume.

My Notes as follows:

Compass: Pretty much Le Galion or Savanna, I think? so very estery molasses rum, lots of strawberry, green apple, and grape. Slightly salty with olive brine. Round and well-made. But I’m only semi-convinced in a daiquiri.

Ecume: Most likely the same blend as Compass, but with a higher alcohol content. The fruits seem more fermented, spicier, and the mouthfeel is thicker, heavier, and oilier in viscosity. Good, but also a bit over the top. I actually like it even less in a daiquiri than the Compass. Overall, neither white blend really blows me away.

Especially compared to the Tricorne, the difference is simply miles apart…

Sirene: Really well-made blend! My nose says Venezuela, Nicaragua, or Belize, maybe even a hint of Barbados. In terms of taste, I’d go for Venezuela. Very delicious and balanced. Dark chocolate, mocha, and coffee, intense oak notes, nicely dry and barely sweet, plum and raisin, cinnamon, and cloves. Very pleasant and a great easy sipper that’s easy to get started with but still sufficiently complex.

Short version: I wouldn’t go for the white ones, but I’d rather go for the Sirene, depending on the price. I really liked it a lot.

A nice Foursquare head to head. You can guess the winner :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Salut à tous les deux,

To me, the Shibboleth wins hands down. It has (more) funk, and a very good balance between sweet- and sour-associated. That makes it more balanced. It’s more outspoken too. Besides, it still seems to hold the traditional Foursquare notes.

This doesn’t mean that the Blackadder would be shabby by any means. This is still a very good drink.

:joy:
