Day One of “The Epic Velier Caroni Tasting” Nears its End
Hello RumX Community! As the first day of “The Epic Velier Caroni Tasting” draws to a close, we’re eager to share our experiences and highlights with you.
Today, we dove headfirst into Velier Caroni’s history, tasting vintages from 1974 through 1994 in four blind tasting sessions. We have compiled our tasting notes and highlights in the RumX app for all of you to check out!
Among the 1980s vintages, the 1985 20yr 75.5% (RX4933) and the 1982 23yo 77.3% (RX3140) stood out for their exceptional profiles. A special moment was undoubtedly tasting the lineup of all 7 regular 1994 releases and the 6 upcoming Caroni Paradise releases, an experience to remember.
Steffen’s legendary goulash provided the perfect culinary complement to this rum odyssey, making our journey even more memorable.
Looking ahead, we’re dedicating tomorrow entirely to the 1996 vintages. We’ll be tasting these legendary rums blind and selecting our personal favorites.

Day 2: Diving Deep into the Legendary 1996 Vintage at the Epic Velier Caroni Tasting
As the sun sets on day 2 of this extraordinary tasting, we reflect on the sensations that danced on our palates. Today, we ventured into the world of the esteemed 1996 vintage Caroni releases from Velier, including the forthcoming Caroni Paradise releases - all blind tasted, of course.
Those familiar with the legendary 1996 vintage from Caroni know we have been savoring the crème de la crème of tropically aged Caroni rums. The quality was consistently exceptional, leading to a unanimous favorite among the team. But we’re keeping that suspenseful detail under wraps for now! What we can reveal is that the new Paradise releases have set new benchmarks.
Our epic tasting journey was enriched with Steffen’s legendary Swiss cheese fondue - a gastronomic delight that brought the day to a delicious close.
As we look forward to tomorrow, we’re excited to explore the 1998 and 2000 vintages in depth and share our impressions with you.
