Tell Us What You Want in RumX: Your Ideas Matter!

In the app is there a way to see the ratings distribution? Like a histogram or something? Also, is there a monthly recap of top ten rated bottles? I ask because I’m not sure if I’m just missing it. Otherwise it would be something I would like to see. Thanks!

You know how to make Friends

It’s my special talent, lol. I may have come on too strong. I had high hopes for this walled garden, but it is what it is I guess. Instagram is very popular after all. Cheers.

There is a rating distribution and there used to be monthly recap. But not anymore…

i think reddit is not so interessting, because people vote for borring stuff and it is not so deep into the rum world. And it is a lot of US bottles, not so much what is going on here. That people can vote for a post and than the post with a lot of likes gets raised sucks a lot because this approach means you only find posts from people who are popular and I have to read the hundredth review from a Foursquare. Exciting little contributions are lost. On RumX it goes into much more detail and is about friendly cooperation. And when a valued user at RumX has the time of his life, we celebrate him for it. Because we are happy too. It’s not so distant and that’s what makes it special i guess. And i like a little chaos in my life. I am thankful that everyone can post stuff here and get an answer and doens’t get lost in the fight for some shitty likes.

Does this forum system support anonymous polls? I would be interested to see how many RumX members want ‘more cringe personal posts’, or ‘higher standards in the posting guidelines’. There are posting guidelines in the forum FAQ. If this community is going to grow, and I’m pretty sure @Oliver wants it to grow, that kind of chaos won’t scale. I may be more headstrong and vocal than your usual noob, but maybe consider how many other noobs see the chaos and just bounce without a word. You can simultaneously have a fun and serious community, but you need to control the chaos. Anyway, polls are useful for measuring actual sentiment, much better than what we’re doing right now in this thread. Cheers.

Only a genius can control the Chaos.

Welcome to RumX.
As i see it you have 2 options.

  1. Participate in these Forums in a proactive way in the sense that you create posts that you find worth reading. Post something useful. If you want to have good discussions, start one. Dont wait on others to provide. A forum is not only about entertainment but also about participation. Crying about somebody else’s post wont bring you far.
  2. Deal with it and leave the place as its not your cup of tea. The internet is a relatively free place. You have a choice where you want to spent your freetimem nobody forces you to be here if you dont like the forums.

RumX btw is much more than what you posted. The core of the community is still the app and the infos in there. All the ratings by the community and the endless information about over 20.000 bottles. These forums are just a place for the more involved community. I would say the forum is devided in 2 parts. One is entertainment/discussion/general rum talk. The other one is available rarities/bottle splits/meeting-up at fairs.
I also dislike the highly personal spam by some members, but that is purely subjective and my personal problem. Since there is a relatively small circle of active poster (i assume below 100), the persomal information is actually interesting since many of us know each other personally. Not saying you cant be part here if you dont know anyone. But hey, you know how small audience, high prices hobbys go. If you know somebody, you know somebody and that does help to get involved.

Oh and if you are looking for somebody to share your Richard Seale hate or FS in general maybe you should bring up some good arguments and not just dig out a 3 year old post about Foursquare  3 year in Rum time is 2 centuries. So what we wrote in 2021 might not be up to date and not exactly our opinion today.

Anyways a warn welcome to you. Maybe if you browse a bit around you find something worth reading. And if not, so be it.

Have a nice bank holiday weekend (at least in germany we do have one)!

Thanks for the welcome! That was a masterclass in passive aggressive commentary. There are definitely more choices available to me than the two very limited choices you allow. For example, choice #3: see something wrong and say something about it to make it better. Also, thanks for telling me how stupid I am for commenting on dead threads. It’s a much better idea to start a brand new thread with the same basic arguments rather than resurrect a thread that already has those arguments laid out. I’m sure @Oliver loves having loads and loads of dead duplicated discussion threads in his database. Well, I got a badge for commenting on those dead threads so it wasn’t a total waste. In the end all the arguments aligned against me here reduce to ‘this is our club and we like it this way’. It’s really up to Oliver what kind of club he wants. So, just like I can ignore your cringe personal posts, you can ignore my complaints about your cringe personal posts. Live and let live. Maybe RumX will therefore become huge, maybe not. Time will tell.

I am not posting here to make RumX huge or not. I dont find myself that important. I dont care if this community has 100 or 10.000 or 1 mio members. Im still posting my nonsense thoughts about some heavy spirit, that i do enjoy. There is no need for a race to become bigger or more popular or better than other platforms. Let them enjoy their liquid and stupid thoughts aswell. This is all just a hobby and some spirit in your glass. Not that important to make rules about what people should post to grow in popularity.

It was also not my intention to be passive agressive, just a more direct approach to your comments about what makes this forum after reading in it for one morning. I do like discussions though, so please pardon my response.

If you are a noob… maybe you should learn first. I don’t get why you want to provoke the members. And what about all the “what Oliver wants!?” Bullsh*t…? Man… chill out … and learn some stuff. I don’t think you will last long here… and i don’t get your attiude… there will be no civil war here :joy: just some rum nerds having a good time.

And no one would call himself a pro here … we cleared that… with Oliver :yum::laughing:

Deshalb sag ich mal ausnahmsweise nix zu diesem Schwachsinn, da bring ich lieber die Päckchen vom Split zur Post, da ist meine Zeit besser aufgehoben mit diesen höherwertigen Tätigkeiten.

Thank you, @Leo. The adults can discuss things. The kinders can throw sand in their sandbox. I think I’ll stay here for a while. Cheers!
