Da weiß ich ja was es am Samstag nach dem Essen zur Zigarre gibt
good choice!
Curious to hear your verdict on this one @DomM. Been keen to try this one
Gantenbein, a super famous and woody wine from Switzerland.
What vintage ? 2016 it seems ?
How was it ?
Well disclaimer first: I‘m a fan of those moderately aged <>Hs profiles. Yet this one is very good imo.
From the freshly opened bottle it is rather on the glue-y side on the nose with roasted and fruit-y notes coming later to the party. On the palate this is straight up very nice. Intense and rich with all the good stuff you would expect - grilled pineapple, roasted almonds, some funk and a well balanced woodiness.
ABV is a slightly below 60%, but that’s no downside. Very enjoyable as it is with ample power.
If you can give it a go.
Super review thanks for sharing! Going to get a bottle!
it’s an amazing wine. I‘d say the demerara among the Pinot Noirs. Rich, depth, woody and smoky which gives the grapes more intensity. I prefer the cabernet and syrah over the pinot, because the latter are complex but lighter wines. But this one is intense and rich stuff.
…ah, 2018
I just put up some 19th century maps of the Caribbean above my rum cabinet and a vintage Martini ad above the bar cart.
Very pleased with the result!
