Ben here, from Spirit Gallery. Since some of you really enjoyed our last releases, weâre excited to share to the community our next project. This summer, weâre launching an âanti-inflationâ pack. Three bottles, great value, and lots of fun to share!
Unfortunately, not this time x/
It would be quite costly to promote only one release of 293 bottles. But maybe thatâs something that could evolve in the future !
After Armagnac, itâs time for rum!
Weâre about to launch a new collection: Funky Furyâhigh-ester white rums from around the world.
Our first stop: a rum from a French island best known for its AOC. You guessed itâitâs a distillate from Galion Distillery, made from French molasses .
Ester level? 563g/hLpaâa true HLCF with a Martinique twist. It took over six months of back-and-forth with the distillery to lock in the perfect profile.
On the palate, get ready for a firework display: ultra-expressive pineapple, a touch of bell pepper, and a hint of smokeâalmost a nod to mezcal, yet superbly balanced for a high-ester rum. Perfect for sipping neat or for giving your daiquiri a serious upgrade.
And thatâs not all⊠Another exciting announcement is coming very soon!
So itâs clear / unaged? Shame that I donât have the fine drams galion with me anymore which was my benchmark for unaged galion so far⊠Would love to try it.
As specified by Jackdrop, itâs going to be unaged. The idea behind the Funky Fury series is to select unaged high-ester rums from all around the world. In the case of this one, it is definitely a funky, high-ester rum and also a very well-balanced Galion compared to the ones previously released. (Though I havenât tried the Fine Drams, so itâs going to be hard to compare.)
The latest release from the pack: a Port Mourant 2012. Distilled in the legendary still, then aged for 13 years in a first-fill ex-bourbon cask.
Forget everything you think you know about this styleâthereâs not a hint of soapiness here!
The alcohol is perfectly integrated, and thereâs plenty of indulgence to go around. On the nose, praline and hazelnut take center stage, gradually giving way to a lovely touch of licorice.
On the palate, those same praline and licorice notes shine through, while the unmistakable Guyana character comes forwardâblond tobacco and resin, a subtle hint of vegetal/forest floor, all wrapped up in a beautifully controlled power.
This is gorgeous, complex, and indulgent molasses rum that should delight fans of Belize, Barbados, and Guyana alike.
Stay tuned â the pack launches and all the latest info drops on June 11th in our next post
