The future of RumAuctioneer

Name five  … I seriously doubt the average Joe can circumvent exchange rates, but even with exchange rate it’s a lot more attractive.

Just browsed through the RA June auction, not that many bargains in the Velier department… a view Caroni, some Demerara. Guess supply will also dry up and be limited to UK sources, especially with these differences in hammer price.

That arb window might be closing…

picking up in UK save you vat but be careful when entering the border, officially you have to declare the import above the thresholds; having a friend buying in UK safes nothing as uk vat applies.

That may be true, but there always will be some bargains to be had as long as one can look beyond Velier/Caroni.

Not on UK lots it doesn’t. UK+VAT items would of course end up more expensive in the UK since you pay VAT twice (one included in the bottle price paid by the original purchaser + new VAT when importing it to the UK).

Exactly, you have strict rules not only on the number of bottles (which is usually one bottle - up to 1l of spirit) but also on their value (430EUR only goes with no declaration, at least to Poland but my guess is it’s the EU law). Therefore it is a pure smuggling  .If you want to earn in a single go, the bargains are not exceptional enough and this is certainly too risky to run a business around it

The cover picture for the upcoming auction is Raconteur, Sassafras & Principia :flushed:

Cashcows.

Well, historically they put the most rare and/or interesting bottles of the auction on the cover. Either some Caroni, Demerara or some really old and rare stuff. If this is any indication of the upcoming lineup, we might get closer to rock bottom. However, there is a small chance this is just a tribute to the Veliers FS range on the occasion of the new release. We will see…

Rum Auctioneer ist back

I‘m not really getting it. In the Email they‘re talking about EU Lots in the July Auction. July Auction is online and i don‘t see a single EU Lot. Did they maybe mean the August auction?

Ah Ok. One might think they’d make that change for both of their auctions in the same month.

Great news. I hope it will work smoothly, even in the current EU excise law

Maybe they mean this month they “collect” bottles for the next auction?

Did you get the email as well? I’m signed up for both whisky and rum auctioneer and have not received it. Wonder if the whole EU is indeed covered by with this change.

I think starting with Whiskey is a good idea, I suspect it is a bigger share of auctions and revenue compared to R(h)um. Also, onboarding a new service platform, and all those things in the backend takes time and energy.

I believe they saw the signs, that they had to do something or risk loosing a major share of the EU market to the Competition.
