The future of RumAuctioneer

Nope, but I guess we can buy the EU lots once they appear. If there is some problem, we can kindly ask our German friends for smuggling some bottles to us

That article feels either 2 years too late or too early

Grier sees Dictador as having parallels with The Macallan

Pfff, nice try, Mr. Marketing Guy. Obvious ploy is obvious

The article is sprinkled with cringeworthy statements like these which makes it hard for me to take it seriously.

If you choose to collect your order in-person or arrange a third-party courier collection, this will be invoiced and payment required prior to collection. The excise charge will be applied at £6.00 (inc. VAT) per bottle for all clients collecting their orders from our Netherlands office.

Ok, indeed they went the route I suggested upthread: ignore whether the excise duty has been paid or not and just collect it on all bottles as if it had not been paid. Since it’s such a small amount compared to most bottles it doesn’t really matter. Why it took them half a year to get to this solution and consequently significantly strengthen their competition is perplexing…

How do we feel about this?

I’m intrigued to see how it will be

Am I reading this right?

We’re re-introducing EU lots

We can’t ship EU lots to your location

What is “your location” in that context? DK? Are they saying they don’t provide shipping within EU or only parts of the EU? And this took them 6 months? Jesus…

@DevidedByZero Yep, I’m located in Denmark, and we usually don’t get the benefit of getting spirits shipped here :expressionless:
I think it will be interesting to see how they can fix this, so we don’t have to pay insane shipping og tax prices

That’s a shame  Why is that?

@KevinDK How do you handle it? If I’m guessing correctly, you’re probably the largest private Danish rum importer :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

I am not certain as to why.
The last time I tried ordering something (this is from US), this is what I got:

Strange that they seem to refer explicitly to Denmark. “We cannot deliver to the EU” would make more sense.

However, it is possible that the same message would have been received in Germany, France, Spain, etc.

I don’t see why there should be a reason not to supply Denmark of all countries.

But yeah, unfortunately I was spot on with thinking about what was going on. They now took a country in which the declaration of excise tax is cheap and easily possible. So it was just money after all. To be honest that doesn’t really sounds all exciting at the moment…

I usually only import from the EU and once in a while Switzerland. For the EU order I have a delivery address in Germany and for the Swiss orders I have a delivery address in Switzerland and that person then drives it just across the border to Germany to a friend of mine.

The reason why many wont ship to Denmark is the trouble with import declaration and if the parcel has to go back. Returning parcels are pretty costly for companies as they have to go through customs on the way back as well

Regarding the discussions about shipping, fees, taxes etc. for UK lots…
I bought a 2002 Corman Collins Saint James for 140,- GBP. All in all this resulted in 268,- EUR.
