I have, also, made the (mis?)fortunate dcision to bid on some UK+VAT lots that I want to ship to Germany. DHL just sent me an email:
Am I screwed here or how does this work? Do I absolutely need that EORI number as a private person or how does that work? Any input is much much appreciated!
That text sounds familiar. You basically just have to tell them that you authorize DHL to take care of the import and duty process (because that also involves a fee). You will then get another email with a link to make the payment.
You do not need a EORI number.
Edit: If my memory serves me right the authorization could be send as a reply to that mail with something “I hereby authorize DHL to take care of all necessairy steps regarding the import of xy and agree to pay any cost and fee involved.” – or something along those lines.
I have also wondered about the same message and asked DHL at the time. I then proceeded as described by @DevidedByZero .
It’s all fine, you do not need the EORI. Seems to be a standard text from DHL.
Hatte die 140 nicht sofort als GBP gesehen
Tyty! post must be at least 6 characters.
An update: I got hit with full German VAT on the whole package even though I believe it was a Euro lot (UK+VAT, should have been). In the end my cost was 1.65 € for every 1 gbp of the hammer price.
Now if you excuse me I’m going to look for a quiet corner where I can crawl in fetal position and cry for a bit.
Ouch, condolences for the loss.
Hope the future of auctions will be smoother
Very sorry to hear - extremely annoying!
Can you find out what went wrong and at what point? Because it makes no sense to bid in the first place, if you can not estimate what the whole thing actually costs in the end.
I hope that the taste consoles you over the additional costs.
What did you expect? Of course you have to pay 19% tax on something that comes from the UK (even if it might originally come from somewhere else). I thought that was clear from the discussion so far
Yes, but the cule is that he paid VAT in UK and then german VAT again. Is that not unusual?
That would be highly unusual.
But I understood he was bidding on a UK+VAT lot and that means:
- If you’re a UK buyer, you pay 20% VAT on top of the hammer price
- If you’re outside UK you only pay hammer price plus usual fee but will pay import taxes (19% for Germany)
Second case applies here, so getting charged the 19% at import should not come as a surprise.
Edit: Maybe I should add that under the current scheme you’ll pay 19% import taxes regardless of what type of lot you bid on.
Normally for export you don’t have to pay UK VAT. I never paid it at RA.
That’s my point .
I understood that Kenny already paid the UK VAT. Did I get you wrong @KennyOMG ?
It was German VAT, not UK (as the lots were UK+VAT ie not fully imported to the UK yet). And it was VAT, not import tax, at least according to the invoice DHL sent to me.
Anyhow. This only made some decent bottles (in terms of pricing) average and won’t be an issue from this month onward I assume.
I ordered there also a bottle last month. I had to pay UK VAT on the commission, not the hammer price. Then, 19% German VAT on the complete amount, including shipping etc.
Can you calculate how much € you paid for 1 GBP hammer price?
In my case it was 1,91
