As DevidedByZero already said, I don’t get the issue in this case. There are only Uk lots nowadays (ye it should change in the next auction again to EU and Uk lots, I know). So of course everyone outside of the Uk has to pay the local VAT upon importing.
In my case:
55£ hammer price bottle → 136€ final amount incl. buyer fee, shipping, insurance, German VAT, excise duty, DHL fee.
Never thought about that Re-Import stuff and RA didn’t do it before at the time they didn’t have a european hub after the brexit.
I guess this kills it anyway:
“The relief from VAT is only allowed if the person that re-imports the goods is the same person who originally exported them.”
The rule is normally that when a company is shipping form the UK to a private person they have to add the UK VAT, then upon arrival the EU countrys VAT will be applied and you can basically apply for a refund on the UK VAT, which is a lot of hassle to say the least
And I know some companies add a lot of charges to the custom clearance. The big shipping companies like TNT, UPS and so are accredited by customs because this allows them to move faster, without having to go through state services. But it’s often not free.
TNT once charged me a completely grotesque surcharge on a transfer from the USA! I’d checked with customs and they’d shown me on the invoice that there were even a few dishonest things…
Anyway, I don’t know about DHL, but I’d be surprised if they took care of customs clearance for free.
good morning, kinda hangover. RA‘s August auction closed yesterday. I just looked at the Guyana rums and it was quite interesting.
Overall statement is that prices are coming down or at least have reached their top for the time being.
Some greedy sellers didn’t get their reserve price so Diamond V 1981, Albion V 1986 and 1994 weren’t sold while the Albion V 1986 stopped at 6k (over 50% below previous auctions) with no bidding for the final hours!
I did some rough total purchase cost calculations and it seems that RA totals are cheaper then recent shop prices.
An interesting note is the variety of prices between UK and EU lots. Some UK lots have been so low that the total cost would have been below EU lots. Some EU were cheaper than the UK lots, overall not many bidders on EU lots. Have a great day all
it’s massively buggy! Part of my profile data is lost (or not connected to database), navigation fails, login failed via starting page (works via menu)…
