Oh, and there’s this one as well.
Uh, 1990 Hampden …do I dare ask about the price?!
Me neither. I won’t even try.
But I’m game for the TDL.
I love those 2001-2003 TDLs but it’s hard to keep up with the pace. And does anybody needs more than 2 bottles of that stuff on the self - a lot of them are very similiar? I’m happy to try a sample nevertheless.
Any recommendations for TDL that are not that Menthol-heavy? I really liked the RdL Wild Ed. 42, but the Rasta Morris is just too much Menthol for me. I read that the 2002’s are usually more gentle in that aspect, any recommendations?
You’re right. 2002 usually is the more elegant vintage. It’s also super rare. The only one which is still availbale is the FRC Barracuda, but it is the worst of those I tried.
The RA was great as the RdL. I’d loved to try the Rum Runner, the cask strength Albert Michler (which was only available in CZ and PL) and the new LMDW.
Edit. some of the 2003 are more subtle, too. The caksus and the 1802 were very cognac-y. Very nice, both of them.
Try the Nobilis TDL 2003 20y. It has not so much Menthol.
Oh I will, once I’ve received the sample from you (no pressure ).
i have pressure for sure. Wanted to be faster this time. Damn privat life.
I agree with you, but those TDLs are still to be had at almost decent prices so I’ll fetch a bottle. TDL is hot now and the 2001-2003 ones will probably retail at 250€ or more by the end of the year. So better stock up at less than 200€ per bottle now.
I have sampled and re-sampled quite a few during the last week and they (the 2001-2003 ones, the later ones are just OK) have the highest quality/price ratio of all the recent releases that I have tried since the beginning of the year.
Does anybody know why they release two different TDLs 2003 in such a short time? Different barrels? Flavors? What is going on? I have fetched more than one from the first Release of The Whisky Jury TDL 2003…
I like this FRC Baracuda. I love it for its balance. It’s not overly mentholated, yet remains complex and pleasant (even if the alcohol is a bit strong, but I’m weak when it comes to high alcohol content, I admit ).
The review on roger’s blog is pretty much what I think of it.
I recently tasted rum runner thanks to a sample. It’s very good, but very minty + citrus peel. The woodiness is therefore very powerful, too much to be a favorite for me. On the other hand, fans of the style will love it!
CDI 1802, very good but also a little too mentholated for me.
@MikeH : the prices have already reached more, 300€ for the TDL plantation 2001 Antipodes. And all is gone (and I made a split here, so my fault too, but it was a very good one).
€539
A Perfect example. It’s easy. We Look in the mirror and find at least one reason for rising prices.
And why they have another TDL 2003 so fast i don’t know but May be they liked both casks that much🤷🏻♂️
When the price is at the same level i will try one. I am curious. I guess i am an easy target when it is a TDL😳
Yes, but Antipodes (LMDW) and RDL belong into the same basket for me: the greedy ones. A lot of independent bottlers have released TDLs priced below 200€ lately.
The ones mentioned above are the exception.
That is awefully close to the RumClub #32 … as if they knew that that one isn’t flying off the shelfs
The hype feeds the hype. What has been true of whiskey for almost two decades is now making its way into rum. And this is especially true for Trinidad. Certainly a lot of high quality rum, but many bottlings (especially from Caroni) are mainly INTERESTING and OTHERING, but not necessarily much TASTIER than their Jamaican, Guyanese or Barbadian relatives. Quality may cost money, but there has to be a lid on it somewhere. At the latest at the point where you no longer pay for particularly unique enjoyment, but for the scarcity of supply.
They can keep it.
Do you know the prices of the other two yet?
TDL 2003: €179
HD 2012: €104
