What's the best Caroni of all time? 🏆

And a shoutout to Kevin for the most emotional Caroni story ever.

Probably the most compelling way to describe the difference between passion and true love.

Der beste tropische: The Last

I’ve tried 6 Caroni and the Caroni 2000 US has been my favorite so far. I’d love to try some of the more recent expressions to compare!

“The Last” (RX38) und Nita “Nitz” Hogan (RX6597)

I haven’t tried that many caronis, but I liked tasting gang RX392. :tumbler_glass:
Still have to rate it, cause I rarely post tastings without a picture :innocent:

Insbesondere hatte ich vom viel gelobten “The Last” mehr erwartet.

Only had 3
Quite différent

Velier 1992 was my best

For me the Last is a clear winner, although there are several which I would have loved to get to try. One honorable mention is the Cadenhead’s 98 one RX1014

Top rated is the RX665 , must admit I didn’t have so many Velier Caronis yet

And the Paradise #4 was rated based on the last drop from a glass that @cigares graciously shared with me at the end of a long day at Whisky Live, so I probably only got a hint of the flavor instead of a proper tasting :innocent:

For me so far the best is “The Last” of Velier, 39th release.

It’s very balanced, heavy, still brings all the notes I guess Caroni is famous for, with deep flavors.

Caronis are always fun.

Guess what? I have not tasted Caroni yet but I have a sample of a Jack Tar Caroni from you guys that I would love to compare with other Caroni’s when I get a chance to grab a hold of at least 2-3 other samples so that I can spot the differences between different bottlings or should I rather say different barrels, different age, abv etc.

Definitely the last and the 12y 50% for me! And of course Rendsburger caroni

My first was
The Last RX38 in a bar and the passion started

A fantastic bottle to have is the 1994 Guyana Stock RX147, no so much at the beginning but the last drops, after a lot of oxidation, were one of my best rum experience to date.

My first bottle was the Bristol 1997 RX358 not the best, but a price/quality as good as the 100th RX180 which stunned a few of my whisky lovers friends.

An exceptional bottle was the Sponge N‱1 RX8715 for the perfect balance and harmony.

My best samples were the 1992 Hangar RX258 for it’s frosty taste and the Ullrich Single Cask RX5663 for its incredible power.

Ah ! And I prefer the 21 yo RX39 over the 17yo RX60. :tumbler_glass:

Fantastic article that goes through the whole Velier Caroni range, had a lot of fun reading it !

When it comes to my tastings, I haven’t tasted yet The Last, considered as top notch. From my own experience, here are the ones that stand out for me :

  • Caroni 35th Release Trespassers for his massive power, yet amazing complexity and depth in the aromas, the raw product at its finest.

  • Caroni 21 Red 1996, amazing « standard » range rum, a rum I think most of us would sip everyday.

  • 1992 FP : the Hangar Series one is a blast. The Normal edition (referred as the cow) is amazingly fruity and generous.

  • Caroni 1996 Paradise 4, had the chance to try it at the Whisky Live, one of the most complete and balanced product from the range.

  • Caroni 1996 Fire, my current GOAT, it hit all my spots and I fell in love with it. Powerful yet subtle, elegant yet generous, a sensational trip that will brighten all your senses.

As the article expressed, 1996 vintage has a sweet spot in my heart too (for once this vintage is famous, it had to be for the most expensive rums ).
