What's the best Caroni of all time? šŸ†

The best was the last that I tried - The Last 1996.

The Last was really good, but I didn’t really taste much more than that  and that won’t change.

Why? :flushed:

I don’t try caroni as well. I have 2 samples in my box, but I don’t open them. I avoid it, because prices for Caroni are beyond what I want to spend on Rum. My love for Guyana is already more expensive than I can justify, but Caroni is a league on its own.

My favorites are Guyana Stock 1994 23yr (RX147) and Rendsburger 1996 (RX1211)

My case from A to Z :joy:

But still, I think that every rum enthusiast would die for to be present at such a tasting. But it is also good to know that someone succeeded and shared this experience in words and pictures. And I hope that I will be the one who will win the samples :grinning:

For me personally, a Demerara tasting is the peak of all tastings. I have missed some great releases (Velier), but hopefully, I am catching up with some recent gems from Guyana.

I would really love to taste two upcoming Caroni Paradise offerings.

I only tasted a little under 60 Caronis so far and rated most of them in the app. The others will follow soon as I am way behind with my ratings. The three who stand out are:

rx38
rx258
rx1882

The 1974 is the best Caroni that I have tasted thus far.

I havent tried many. Had some samples - all quite good, but for me not worth the price…
Last year I bought Navy Rum 100th Anniversary - Caroni Limited Edition RX180 | RumX. And i did not regret it.

As many i love the Caroni taste and flavors a lot but could not taste so many because most velier caronis are just so expansive and i just don’t want to spend that money. I had a chance to get a RX38 Sample for OVP price. Thanks a lot for that.

I almost feel bad writing that but i am very happy with my 1997 &1998 Bristol Caronis. I love the profile. Much more dirt than The Last for example. So i am happy that i have spend a lot les money for Caroni bottles i like a lot.

Would i love to try more Velier caronies. Of course :rofl:. Maybe with time i will get a chance.

While not yet having made a single review here on Rum-X (it’s coming!), I have tried a total of 4 Caronis throughout my days; RX3913, RX180, RX448, RX203.

RX203, John ā€žDā€œ Eversley was such an experience, and such a multi-layered and complex journey, that it blew all other rums out of the park and still today stands as the very best rum I’ve ever had.

For me, it’s my personal 10-point reference, and making an objective 100-point-scale rating of it will be very tough as I need more experience with rating rums - but I believe it’s surely up around a 9.4+

I started with two forgettable Bristol samples, but I thought the high scores were more than just hype, so I kept trying. With the help of the community, I was able to taste The Last. I haven’t had a better Caroni since then. As part of the Rarities Tasting, I was also able to taste the 1992 Velier Caroni (RX258), which I found quite good. To my surprise, a much more affordable 1997 Valinch & Mallet (RX13912) could also hit that level for me. Thus, this was the first bottle of Caroni on my shelf, which was recently followed by a more painful investment. For €1050 the temptation was too great, I bought The Last.

Don’t worry, the last wasn’t the last one!
I’ve just learned that a new barrel of Caroni has been discovered! A concentrate of typical perfumes for which the true Caroni amateurs can’t resist! I let you check yourself that incredible discovery!

Joke apart, I’ll be here the extravagant enthusiast who swims against the tide! As you can see, Caroni rums aren’t really my favorite. I don’t think they’re bad in themselves, but the distillery’s typical aromas aren’t particularly pleasing to the palate.
At the moment, amongst my tastings, those from Le Gus’t were good (maybe not enough caroni, so better to me  ), and so was the 96 from l’esprit, which I find really nice and pleasant.
For the Caroni 12/17/21 and other Veliers oldies, I think they were superb bottles at the starting price, but now they’re completely overpriced compared to the pleasure I’ll get from drinking them, so I’m not even looking to try them.

NB : Very recently, I discovered that tar was used in a french aperitif. So why not in a rum??!
